ELECTRIC IN HONGKONG. CONTINUATION.
296
The directors of the Hongkong Electric Company were Messrs. H. P. Tennant, E. T. Davies, L. Poesnecker, S. Coxon, F. H. Cross, H. Wicking, C. A. Ozorio, J. F. da Roza, W. H. Wickham (manager) and C. F. Harton (Secretary).
The chairman, unduly optimistic, said the company hoped to be able to supply street lights by October. As a matter of fact, it was not until December 1, that the street lights were switched on for the first time.
Messrs. Gibb, Livingston and Company were the new company's agents.
And from that humble start the Hongkong Electric Company progressed until to-day, when it occupies a leading place among the public utilities of the Colony.
The history of the China Light and Power Company, and its operations on the Peninsula will be dealt with at a later date.
